Born and bred in Devon, Alex started thatching at the tender age of 15. His urge to explore pastures new took him to Australia where landscape gardening became his forte. He then returned to his Devon roots and now lives and works in Somerset where he works intensively at his thatching.
He trained at Knuston Hall in Northamptonshire and won the George Dray Memorial Cup for being the most improved apprentice. He has worked extensively for The National Trust, worked on the Japanese Minka House in Kew Gardens, the Hermitage Project in Chicago as well as countless properties in Somerset and Devon.
A good hard day’s work never hurt anyone. As long as it’s not raining.
The roof Alex would most like to thatch:
The parasol on the beach of his tropical desert island.
